Background

The India-Tanzania Centre of Excellence in Information and Communication Technologies (ITCoEICT) is one of the centres at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) that was established in 2009 as a result of friendly-relation between the two countries and their desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the area of Information Communication Technologies (ICT). This bilateral cooperation was made possible through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between India and Tanzania governments in 2008 to establish ITCoEICT at DIT. The principles objective of establishing ITCoEICT was to promote the development of ICT in Tanzania.

Since its establishment, ITCoEICT has been providing various professional services in ICT including conducting modular short-term professional courses in ICT, High Performance Computing (HPC) services, national and international joint collaborative research projects, and other ICT related services. To further improve its daily operations and expand its services, ITCoEICT requires it to have Operational Policy and Procedures (OPP).

In view of supporting the 6th phase Government of the United Republic of Tanzania (URT), DIT is set to become an agent of industrialization, a progressive and customer centred higher learning institution. Therefore, through ITCoEICT, DIT will realize and support the crucial role that ICT play in nation's social economic development as clearly stated in the National ICT Policy of 2016 as well as in the National Development Vision 2025. In line with this, the Institute Corporate Strategic Plan (2017/18 – 2026/27) advocates for the development and deployment of world-class ICT systems to support the core functions of the Institute at cost-effectiveness and competitiveness, as well as providing an enabling environment for the realization of teaching factory concept.
